PIKEVILLE, Ky.- The men's basketball team had a rough outing on the road on Wednesday. The team fell to the 13th-ranked University of Pikeville Bears 102-75 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) game, moving the team's record to 9-9 overall and 8-6 in the AAC.
TWU got in a hole early in the game as Pikeville scored the first 12 points of the game. Ty Runyan got the Bulldogs on the board but another cold stretch saw the opponents pull ahead 21-2. Omarion Barber had a putback dunk to break the cold spell and baskets by JJ Rueckert and Charles Neverdon made the score 28-10. The Bulldogs were not able to pull closer in the first half though, trailing 58-29 at the halftime break.
The first five minutes of the second half saw Armando Cuardado and JJ Rueckert score to get the Bulldogs to the 40-point mark, making the score 70-41. TWU outscored the Bears 46-44 in the second half, but it would not be enough to pull the team over the mark as they fell in the end.
Rueckert led the team with 15 points.
