Athens, Tenn.- The women's soccer team returned to the pitch at the TWU Athletic Complex for their second game of the season on Saturday. The team welcomed the Eastern Oregon University Lady Mountaineers for the first time ever. This was also the team's final non-conference game of the regular season.
TWU successfully defended a shot barrage by the opponents, with Laia Roch Font recording three saves on the five shots Eastern Oregon took in the opening minutes of the game. Alexandra Machado tried to put the first goal of the game on the board but her shot was saved by the opposing keeper. Machado had a chance at the end of the half that narrowly missed as it hit off the crossbar, sending the game into halftime in a scoreless tie.
By the end of the second half, the 0-0 score remained. Jordan Smith, Madisen Hodges, and Julia Ruiz Vargas all took shots in the second half for the Lady Bulldogs. The opponents forced TWU to defend seven shots in the second half, two of which were on goal and saved by Roch Font. With neither team scoring, the game ended in a 0-0 tie.
Roch Font finished with five saves in the net.
Conference play starts for the Lady Bulldogs (1-0-1) in their next contest. The schedule takes the team on the road for the first time this season when they face Montreat College on Sept. 9 at 5:00 p.m.
