Women's Lacrosse Beats New College of Florida For Second Win in a Row

SARASOTA, Fla.- The women's lacrosse team won their second straight game on Monday. The team traveled to Florida for a two-game road trip, starting the venture with a 16-9 win over the New College of Florida. 

After exchanging the first two goals, TWU scored five straight goals to end the first quarter. Aava Downey got the Lady Bulldogs on the board to start the game. Jacie Bomar moved the team ahead 2-1 and was followed by a goal by Kylie Heinrich. Olivia Downey scored a few minutes later and a goal by Kate Buchanan made the score 5-1. O. Downey scored with a minute remaining, giving the team a 6-1 advantage to begin the second quarter. 

The Lady Bulldogs opened the second quarter with four consecutive goals. Heinrich scored the first two while Buchanan and Bomar scored the other two, moving the team's lead to 10-1. Tennessee Wesleyan led 11-3 at halftime after a goal by Elizabeth Pluta.

Three goals by the Lady Bulldogs opened the second half. O. Downey scored the first goal of the third quarter, making the score 12-3. Stephanie Rocha got involved in the scoring action, giving the team a ten-goal lead. Pluta scored the third goal for the team, pushing the score to 14-3. New College of Florida ended the quarter scoring the final three goals, making the score 14-6 at the end of the third quarter. 

TWU only scored two more times in the game. Pluta scored both, getting the team to 16 goals. 

Pluta led the team with five goals while Heinrich and O. Downey each had three goals. Rylee Brendlinger got the win in the net.

The Lady Bulldogs (4-2) close out their Florida trip with a game against Warner University on Wednesday. The game is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
