Women's Lacrosse Demolish Huntingdon

MONTGOMERY, Ala.-  The women's lacrosse team got back in the win column with an explosion of offense. The team defeated Huntingdon College 28-1 on Friday. 

TWU scored the first three goals of the game, off the sticks of Olivia Downey, Aava Downey, and Kate Buchanan. After a Huntingdon goal, the offense went on to score the remaining 25 goals in the game. Jozlyn Long and Buchanan scored the remaining goals in the quarter that gave the team a 6-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. 

The Lady Bulldogs added seven goals to their score in the second quarter. Helping the team lead their lead to 13-1 was Kylie Heinrich, America Barajas, A. Downey, O. Downey, Long, and Jacie Bomar.

In the third quarter, Tennessee Wesleyan added another seven goals. A. Downey scored twice, O. Downey and Buchanan scored one, and Heinrich scored three consecutive goals, making the team's lead 20-1. 

The team did the most damage in the fourth quarter, adding eight goals to their score. O. Downey started the scoring in the quarter and was followed by a goal by Elizabeth Pluta, back-to-back goals by Buchanan, and a goal by A. Downey. O. Downey scored again and Pluta and Barajas scored the final two goals in the team's commanding 28-1 win.

Buchanan led with six goals, O. Downey had five goals, A. Downey had five goals and five assists, and Heinrich had four goals. Pluta also had 5 assists for the team.

Up next for the Lady Bulldogs (2-1) is an away contest on Tuesday, Feb. 24 against Life University at 3:00 p.m.
