Nine-Goal Spree Helps Women's Lacrosse Defeat St. Andrews

LAURINBURG, N.C.- The schedule took the women's lacrosse team on the road for an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) game on Friday. The team traveled to the home field of the St. Andrews University Lady Knights.

The first quarter saw the teams combine for eight goals. St. Andrews scored the first goal of the contest. TWU scored the next two. Kylie Heinrich and Kate Buchannan gave the Lady Bulldogs a 2-1 lead. St. Andrews tied the contest before back-to-back scores by Kaelyn Mays and Heinrich gave the team a 4-2 lead. A goal by Jozlyn Long with 28 seconds remaining in the first quarter gave the team a 5-3 lead heading into the second quarter.

The second quarter saw three more goals for the Lady Bulldogs. Olivia Downey opened the quarter scoring on Buchannan's assist. Stephanie Rocha scored the second goal of the quarter for the team off Downey's assist while Downey scored once again off a Buchannan assist. Tennessee Wesleyan led 8-4 at halftime.

The opening minutes of the third quarter saw the opponents score two goals. Camille Crisp got in on the scoring action to move ahead by three goals as the scoreboard read 9-6. Each team scored one more goal in the third quarter with Long scoring for the team off Buchannan's assist, giving the team a 10-7 lead to begin the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Bulldogs blew the game open. The team scored the first three goals of the final stanza, with two coming from Buchannan and one from Heinrich to move the lead to 13-7. After a St. Andrews score, TWU closed the game out with six consecutive goals to secure a 19-8 win. Crisp scored the first goal in the scoring spree, Heinrich had the next three, and Long had the final two off assists by Mays and Heinrich to give the team their 11-goal win.

Heinrich finished with a career-high six goals in the game while Long added four goals. Buchannan had a team-high four assists to go along with three goals. Crisp and Downey each had two goals. Rylee Brendlinger had 16 saves in the net.

The schedule brings the Lady Bulldogs (2-9, 1-2 AAC) back to their home field on Wednesday for a game at 12:00 p.m. The team will face Eastern Oregon University.
