Women's Basketball Drops Road Game at Union Commonwealth

BARBOURVILLE, Ky.- The women's basketball team was not able to find a game-tying shot on Monday. The team fell to the Union Commonwealth University Lady Bulldogs 57-54 in their Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) contest.

Camryn Brown gave the team the first lead of the game, hitting a three-pointer. Brown's second three-pointer made the score 6-2 and back-to-back baskets by Jada Edwards and Leslie Hames made the score 10-8. TWU led at the end of the first quarter 13-8 after an Edwards jumper and Jordan White free throw.

Union Commonwealth scored the first seven points of the second quarter to lead 15-13. Sloan Carpenter and Brown combined to give the team the lead back for a brief moment. Points from Jalaya Lindsey, Talley Lawson, and Brown helped the team take a 29-25 lead into halftime. 

Brown opened the second half with a three-pointer. Carpenter scored seven straight points for the team to help move the team's lead to 39-36 midway through the third quarter. Edwards and White made baskets near the end of the third quarter that pushed the team ahead 43-42 to begin the fourth quarter. 

The opponents opened the fourth quarter on a 5-0 run to take the lead. Lindsey, Brown, White, and Carpenter all scored to give the team a 53-52 lead with 1:24 remaining in the game. Union Commonwealth ended the game on a 5-1 run and a last shot attempt would not fall in a the team's three-point loss. 

Brown led the offense with 17 points while Carpenter had a double-double of 12 points and 14 rebounds. 

TWU moves to 8-13 overall and 7-9 in the AAC with the loss.
