No. 8 Seed Baseball Moves Past No. 9 Seed IU Southeast
LEWISTON, Idaho- The run towards a national title remains alive for the baseball team as they won a second elimination game at the Avista NAIA World Series on Wednesday. The eighth-seeded Bulldogs extracted some revenge in the win, beating the team that beat them on Monday, No. 9 seed Indiana University Southeast Grenadiers, 10-3.
The first lead of the game went to Tennessee Wesleyan this time, who scored in the first inning when David Ballenilla's single to left field brought in Rob Gordon.
Allan Gil Fernandez added to the team's score in the third inning, hitting a ball over the left field wall that would bring in two runs with Hagen Escoto standing on base. Gordon scored for a second time in the game, running across home plate on a Josh Shelly single. The sixth inning saw IU Southeast score three runs to make the score 4-3.
The Bulldogs created separation in the eighth inning. With the bases loaded, a wild pitch gave Ethan Wright the space to score and moved Reece Jordan to third and Fernandez to second. A double down the left field line by Gordon brought in both Jordan and pinch-runner Jonahtan Bosque. Gordon scored for a third time on Ballenilla's second RBI single of the game and both Ballenilla and Kolton Reynolds would score on a throwing error off Brayan Espinoza's hit, pushing the team their 10-3 win.
TWU (46-14) survives to play a third elimination game against No. 5 seed Southeastern University. The game is set for Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
