No. 16 Baseball Splits AAC Doubleheader Against Bryan

DAYTON, Tenn.- The 16th-ranked baseball team started their final regular season series with a doubleheader on Thursday. The games were against Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opponent Bryan College. The teams split the doubleheader with the Bulldogs winning the first game 13-9.

Game One:

Two doubles helped TWU take a 2-0 lead after the first inning. Rob Gordon hit the first double, bringing in Allan Gil Fernandez with the hit. The second double was hit by Kolton Reynolds, bringing in Josh Shelly. The second and third innings saw Bryan score six run between them, giving them a 6-2 lead. A solo home run in the fourth inning by Reynolds gave the team one of the runs back, but the opponents matched with a run in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 7-3.

TWU took the lead back in the seventh inning. A fielder's choice brought on Jacob Tolson's at-bat started a seven-run rally as Brayan Espinoza scored the first run. An error on Jonathan Bosque's hit brought in a second run while three home runs,  two two-run home runs by Fernandez and Shelly, and a solo home run by Reynolds gave the team a 10-7 lead.

Two more home runs, this time in the top of the ninth inning, helped the Bulldogs get to 13 runs. David Ballenilla hit a two-run shot while Espinoza hit a solo home run.

Colton Brumley got the pitching win.

Game Two:

A single by Reece Jordan gave the Bulldogs the first lead when Ballenilla scored on the hit in the second inning. Bosque grew the lead to two with a sacrifice fly that scored Reynolds. The opponents scored six runs between the third, fourth, and fifth innings to go ahead 6-2. TWU managed two more runs in the game, a Reynolds home and a Jordan RBI-double, but could not pull closer.

The split moved the team's record to 35-14 overall and 19-7 in the AAC.
