No. 4 Baseball Holds Off Indiana Tech

ATHENS, Tenn.- The baseball team closed out their two-game series against the Indiana Tech Warriors with a 15-11 win on Wednesday.

After Indiana Tech scored a run in the top of the second, the Bulldogs scored four straight runs, two of them in the bottom of the second. Jacob Tolson started the scoring with a single to left field that brought in Brayan Espinoza. Cody McGill was the second run of the second inning, scoring on David Ballenilla's single.

The run in the third inning for TWU came in the form of a solo home run by Josh Shelly. The Bulldogs took a 4-1 lead off Reece Jordan scoring on Ballenilla's second RBI of the game.

Beginning in the fifth inning, both teams scored at least one run in the remaining innings. Indiana Tech only scored two runs in the fifth and sixth innings, while Tennessee Wesleyan scored seven runs over that same span. Two of the runs came in the bottom of the fifth for the Bulldogs.

Shelly scored the first run of the inning on Espinoza's double. Standing on third after the double, Kolton Reynolds would score on a wild pitch, moving the team's lead to 6-2. A five-run sixth inning started and ended with home runs. The first of the two home runs was a two-run home run by Shelly, his second of the game. The second home run was by Cody McGill, this time a three-run bomb that moved the team's lead to 11-3.

In the seventh inning, Indiana Tech scored four runs to cut the lead to just four. Shelly got one of the runs back in the bottom of the seventh, hitting a sacrifice fly that Ethan Wright scored on to move the score to 12-7. Tennessee Wesleyan responded to a run in the eighth by the Warriors with three runs in the bottom of the eighth. Hagen Escoto hit an RBI double that brought in Espinoza and then a wild pitch brought in courtesy runner Jonathan Bosque and Escoto, who scored on a throwing error off the wild pitch. The opponents added three runs in the top of the ninth but could not pull closer as the Bulldogs finished with the 15-11 win.

Shelly led the offense with four RBIs. Josiah Glodfelter was credited with the pitching win.

The win moved the team's record to 20-6 overall.
