Volleyball Gets Win Against KCU
GRAYSON, Ky.- The volleyball team began a two-match road trip on Friday with an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) contest against the Kentucky Christian University Lady Knights. The first leg of the trip started with a win as the Lady Bulldogs walked away with a 3-1 win.
Tennessee Wesleyan fell behind in the first set. After a 7-7 tie, Kentucky Christian went on a rally to move ahead 17-12. The team battled back from the deficit, scoring 13 of the next 16 points to win the first set 25-20.
It took extra points for the Lady Bulldogs to take the second set. The team went ahead 2-0 in the match when they won the second set 29-27 on block assists by Janie Merritt and Jia Weathersby.
The third also required extra points to find a winner. Unfortunately this time, the opponents won the set, taking the third set by a score of 31-29 to make the match score 2-1.
TWU did not let the match go to a fifth set. The team took control of the set by turning a 7-4 lead into a 17-10 advantage deeper in the set. Though the opponents made a small comeback, the Lady Bulldogs went on to win the fourth set 25-19 to win the match 3-1.
Alley Hibdon led the offense with 16 kills and 37 assists (both career-highs) while Amya Sutton added 19 kills. Shante Smith and Merritt each had 12 kills. The team had a season-high 71 kills.
