Volleyball Sweeps Warren Wilson for First Win
BLUEFIELD, Va.- The volleyball went on the road to play a tri-match on Saturday. The first match of the tri-match was against Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent Bluefield University. The day's second match came against the Warren Wilson College Lady Owls.
In the second match, the Lady Bulldogs went on to win their first match of the season. In the first set, a Megan Thompson service and Megan Lee kill gave the team a 3-1 advantage. The teams exchanged points, as a 6-6 tie occurred moments later. A service error followed by a Megan Tracy kill gave the team a lead they never surrendered. Back-to-back kills by Amya Sutton and Lee helped the team move their advantage to 14-9, and Conleigh Brock's kill pushed the score to 19-15. A kill by Shante Smith gave the Lady Bulldogs a 25-21 first-set victory.
In the second set, TWU scored eight of the first 11 points to lead 8-3 after a Olivia Bolin kill. The team kept Warren Wilson from scoring points, taking a commanding 18-9 lead on a Tracy kill. A sequence of serves by Gracelyn Jackson, which included three service aces, helped the team take set two by a score of 25-10 to take a 2-0 lead into the third set.
The third set was the final set of the day for the Lady Bulldogs. A kill by Tracy and two service aces by Jackson helped the team to a 3-0 lead early in the set. A kill by Smith made the score 7-2 and a kill by Tracy moved the lead to 12-7. As the match progressed, the score moved to 21-10. The final point of the match came on a Tracy kill, giving the team a 25-13 set win and a 3-0 victory in the match.
Smith led the team with nine kills in the match while Bolin aided the offense with 18 assists. Thompson had a team-high 11 digs in the match.
Tennessee Wesleyan returns to their home floor on Tuesday for a conference match. The team will face the University of Pikeville as a conference opponent for the first time ever at 6:30 p.m.
