Women's Outdoor Track and Field Finish as Runner-ups at AAC Championships

Black Mountain, N.C.- The women's track and field program competed for a team and individual conference championship on Friday and Saturday. The chances at the titles took place at the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships. 

The team picked up four individual titles during Friday's portion of the meet. Another two individual titles were added by the team on Saturday to give the team a total of six individual titles. Along with the individual titles, the Lady Bulldogs had a number of All-Conference finishes and hit a couple of NAIA "A" and "B" Standards. 

On Friday, the individual title winners were: 

  • Paige Manney, Chaggie Bassar, Lauren Garrison, Aniecia Goss- Women's 4x100m Relay: 47.65 seconds 

  • Chaggie Bassar- Women's 400m Race: 59.22 

  • Paige Manney- Women's 100m Hurdles: 14.51 seconds; Women's High Jump: 1.50m; 200m Dash: 26.09 seconds, Third Place 

On Saturday, the individual title winners were:  

  • Paige Manney- Women's Triple Jump: 12.23m 

  • Aniecia Goss- Women's 400m Hurdles: 1:05.11 

Earning All-Conference Honors were: 

  • Paige Manney- Women's Long Jump: 5.82m, Second Place 

  • Caley Essie- Women's Heptathlon: 3,234 Points, Second Place 

  • Aniecia Goss- Women's 100m Dash: 12.39 seconds, Third Place; Women's Triple Jump: 11.35m, Third Place 

  • Rae Gore- Women's Discus Throw: 38.00m, Third Place 

  • Chaggie Bassar- 200m Dash: 25.86 seconds, Second Place 

In terms of national standards, Manney hit an NAIA "B" Standard in the 100m Hurdles. After approaching the NAIA "B" Standard in multiple meets this season, the 4x100m Relay Team (Manney, Bassar, Garrison, and Goss) blew past the standard and hit an NAIA "A" Standard to qualify for the national meet in the event. Manney also hit NAIA "A" Standards in the Long Jump and Triple Jump. This was the first time this season Manney hit an "A" Standard in the Long Jump. 

As a team, Tennessee Wesleyan stayed in close range of first and second place throughout the entire meet. By the end of the meet, the team finished in second place with 146 points through great performances by the entire team. 

Manney was named the AAC Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year based on her performance at the meet and throughout the outdoor season.  

The team returns to action at the Life University Last Chance Meet on Friday, May 5.
