Women's Indoor Track and Field Finish Sixth at AAC Championships; DeGrace Named Freshman of the Year

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The women's indoor track and field program competed for a conference title on Monday and Tuesday. The team was looking for individual and team titles at the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships. The team finished with two conference individual titles and four podium finishers. The top three finishers in the event earned a spot on the podium. The podium finishers were also named All-Conference.

Samantha DeGrace won two events while finishing third in another. DeGrace, who was named the Freshman of the Year by the conference, won the 60m Hurdles with a time of 9.05 seconds while setting a meet record with a mark of 1.71m to win the High Jump. The mark was a National "A" Standard. DeGrace also finished third in the Long Jump. 

Earning spots along with DeGrace was the Distance Medley Relay team. The team consisted of Kaelyn Pluta, Mckenna Hubbard, Victoria Verran, and Molly Woodby, who used a time of 13:34.36 to finish third. 

In the team standings, the Lady Bulldogs finished sixth with 57 points. 

Earning points, along with the above, were:

Grace Clemens: 200m Dash, 26.86 seconds; 5th

Jakara Tobler: 400m Race, 1:03.86; 8th | Long Jump, 4.95m; 6th

Lisa Schoen: 60m Hurdles, 10.02; 8th | High Jump, 1.38m; 6th | Long Jump, 4.76m | Shot Put, 11.42m; 4th

Chloe Dailey: High Jump, 1.35m; 8th

4x400m Relay (Clemens, Tobler, Joelle Bixby, DeGrace): 4:21.03; 5th

4x800m Relay (Pluta, Dailey, Verran, Woodby): 11:03.69; 7th

Sheridan Cruz: Triple Jum, 9.32m; 8th

 

With the completion of the conference meet, the schedule moves on to the NAIA National Championship Meet. The meet is set for Feb. 27- March 1 in Gainesville, Fla. DeGrace will compete in the High Jump at the meet.
