No. 12 Seed Women's Tennis Win NAIA Tournament Opener

MOBILE, Ala.- The women's tennis team played their first match of the 2025 NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship Tournament on Tuesday. The 12th-seeded Lady Bulldogs swept the No. 21 McPherson College Lady Bulldogs 4-0 in the first round to advance in the tournament. The tournament is being played at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala., and is being played in a first-to-clinch format, meaning the team to score four points wins the match.

Mercedes Chasset, Ivet Prat, Honoka Tsuji, and Julia Richardet helped the team win the doubles point. The former won the No. 2 doubles 6-0, and the latter won the No. 3 doubles with a 6-1 score.

The remaining three points to clinch the match came from the No. 2 singles, No. 4 singles, and No. 6 singles. Two scores of 6-1, 6-1 gave Laia Berne the No. 2 singles win, and a score of 6-1, 6-1 put Prat over the top in the No. 4 singles. Paula Cigarran gave the team the match win with a 6-0, 6-3 win in the sixth singles spot. 

The win moves the Lady Bulldogs (15-4) to the second round of the tournament, where they will face No. 5 seed William Carey University at 10:00 a.m. ET.
