Women's Lacrosse Stomps Warner for Third Straight Win

LAKE WALES, Fla.- The women's lacrosse team finished their trip in Florida with a win on Wednesday. The team beat the Warner University Lady Lions 17-9. 

Tennessee Wesleyan fell behind 2-0 early in the game. The team ended the quarter by scoring four consecutive goals, including three within a one minute and five second span. Elizabeth Pluta started the scoring for the Lady Bulldogs. Kate Buchanan started and ended the one minute and five second scoring span with a second goal by Pluta sandwiched in between. 

Jacie Bomar made it five straight goals in the opening seconds of the second quarter. Jozlyn Long scored the sixth consecutive goal, moving the team's to 6-2. Warner scored the next three goals to cut the TWU lead down to one goal. Each team scored one more goal before the end of the half, with Pluta scoring for the Lady Bulldogs and the team leading 7-6 at halftime. 

Tennessee Wesleyan took control of the game in the third quarter, outscoring Warner 6-1, including the first five goals. Olivia Downey started put the first goal of the streak in the net and was followed by a Stephanie Rocha goal. Pluta scored the third and fifth goals of the run with Aava Downey scoring in between, extending the lead to 12-6. After the goal by Warner, Pluta scored her sixth goal of the game to give the team a 13-7 lead at the end of the third quarter. 

Over the first seven minutes, the teams exchanged goals. Buchanan and O. Downey were the scorers for the Lady Bulldogs in the exchange. Kylie Heinrich scored the last two goals of the game in the team's 17-9 victory. 

Pluta finished with a career-high six goals. Rylee Brendlinger got the win in the net.

Up next for TWU (5-2) is their home opener against Culver-Stockton College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
