Women's Lacrosse Hampers Down Against CSC to Win Fourth Game in a Row
ATHENS, Tenn.- After seven consecutive road games, the women's lacrosse team played their home game of the season on Saturday. The team hosted and defeated the Culver-Stockton College Wildcats 10-7.
TWU opened the game with back-to-back goals by Kate Buchanan and Aava Downey, giving the team a 2-0 lead. Culver-Stockton followed with two goals of their own though, tying the match. Downey broke the tie but the opponents scored to tie the game again, ending the first quarter with the score 3-3.
Olivia Downey scored a goal to break the tie. Culver-Stockton took the momentum though, scoring the next two goals to put the Lady Bulldogs behind for the first time in the game. A goal by A. Downey tied the game for the fourth time. Culver-Stockton scored the final goal of the first half, giving them a 6-5 lead at halftime.
Tennessee Wesleyan held the opponent scoreless in the third quarter to take control of the game. Buchanan put the game in a 6-6 tie with her goal. A. Downey followed with a goal that forced the final lead change of the game. Buchanan scored for a second time in the quarter, giving the team an 8-6 lead.
The first goal of the fourth quarter was not scored until 3:15 remained on the clock. O. Downey scored it to extend the team's cushion. Culver-Stockton scored their final goal before a Jozlyn Long goal gave the team their tenth goal in the 10-7 win.
A. Downey led the offense with four goals while Buchanan added three goals. Rylee Brendlinger got the win in the net.
TWU (6-2) returns to their home field on Sunday for a game against the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis at 12:30 p.m.
