Women's Lacrosse Win Fifth Straight Game

ATHENS, Tenn.- A four-game week ended with a win for the women's lacrosse team on Sunday. The team beat the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis Eutectics 16-6 to win their fifth straight game.

Olivia Downey gave the team a 2-0 lead, scoring back-to-back goals off assists by Kylie Heinrich. Aava Downey put the team up 3-0 a few minutes later. After a goal by the opponent, Kate Buchanan and O. Downey scored to give the team a 5-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. 

TWU took an 8-3 lead into halftime. The teams exchanged goals to open the second quarter. Heinrich scored for the Lady Bulldogs in the exchange. The exchange ended with Tennessee Wesleyan scoring the final two goals. O. Downey and A. Downey scored the goals back-to-back to give the team their five-goal advantage.

The opponents opened the second half with two goals. The Lady Bulldogs responded with two goals of their own. The same sequence that ended the first half, goals by O. Downey and A. Downey, ended the third quarter, giving the team a 10-5 lead. 

TWU grew their lead to eight goals within the first five minutes of the fourth quarter. Two goals by Jozlyn Long and a goal by O. Downey pushed the team's lead to 13-5. A goal by the Eutectics was followed by goals by Heinrich, Long, and Buchanan in propelling the team to their ten-goal win.

O. Downey led the team with six goals in the win while A. Downey and Long each added three goals. Rylee Brendlinger got the win in the net.

The team will play their third straight road game on Wednesday when they host Randolph College at 1:00 p.m.
