Women's Lacrosse Hold Off Truett McConnell
CLEVELAND, Ga.- The women's lacrosse team played their final game of the regular season on Saturday. The team went to the home of the Truett McConnell University Lady Bears for an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) game. A win against Truett McConnell would give the team the No. 5 seed in the upcoming AAC Tournament.
Kaelyn Mays scored the first two goals of the game. Olivia Downey and Kate Buchanan followed with goals to give the team a 4-0 advantage. Downey scored one more goal and three goals from the combination Kylie Heinrich, Jozlyn Long, and Buchanan helped the team lead 8-3 at the end of the first quarter.
The scoring continued for the Lady Bulldogs in the second quarter. Mays and Downey scored the first three goals of the quarter. The quarter ended with each team scoring a goal, with Long scoring for Tennessee Wesleyan, to make the score 12-4 at halftime.
The teams exchanged goals to begin the second half. Heinrich scored the first goal for the team, Long scored the second, and Buchanan scored the third. The opponents ended the third quarter by scoring three straight goals, moving the score to 15-9 in favor of the Lady Bulldogs.
The fourth quarter saw Truett McConnell score the first two goals. Tennessee Wesleyan scored four of the next five goals to move ahead 19-12. Downey scored three of the goals while Heinrich had one goal. The opponents ended the game scoring three more goals, making the final score 19-15 in favor of the Lady Bulldogs.
Downey led the offense with six goals while Mays had four goals and Heinrich, Long, and Buchanan had three each. Rylee Brendlinger finished with 17 saves in the net.
TWU (4-12, 2-4 AAC) will be the No. 5 seed in the AAC Tournament. They will play their tournament on Thursday against No. 4 seed Georgetown College at 12:00 p.m., in Williamsburg, Ky.
