Women's Lacrosse Rhythm Stopped Against Georgetown
GEORGETOWN, Ky.- The women's lacrosse team played their third consecutive game on the road on Wednesday. The team went to the state of Kentucky to face Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opponent, the Georgetown College Lady Tigers.
Tennessee Wesleyan was able to dig themselves out of a hole to open the game. Georgetown had scored the first three goals of the game. By the end of the first quarter, the Lady Bulldogs were trailing by two goals. Olivia Downey scored the first goal of the game for TWU. The opponents scored the next two goals to move their lead to four goals. Kylie Heinrich scored back-to-back goals to make the score 5-3 at the end of the first quarter.
The rhythm the Lady Bulldogs found on offense to end the first quarter disappeared in the second quarter. The offense was shutout in the second quarter. Georgetown went on to score four goals, moving their lead to 9-3 at the halftime break.
Afer a goal by Georgetown to begin the third quarter, TWU scored three goals in a row. Downey recorded the first goal, scoring on a Stephanie Rocha assist. Kate Buchannan scored off a Camille Crisp assist while Rocha added to the scoring streak with a goal of her own, cutting the lead down to four goals as the scoreboard read 10-6. The momentum did not carry for the Lady Bulldogs as Georgetown scored the final eight goals of the game to win 18-6.
Downey and Heinrich both scored two goals in the game. Rylee Brendlinger had 18 saves in the net, a career-high.
Tennessee Wesleyan (1-7, 0-2 AAC) concludes the four-game road trip against Montreat College on Saturday. The conference game is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
