Softball Comes Back to Split Against KCU

ATHENS, Tenn.- The softball team played a doubleheader on Friday. The team took on the Kentucky Christian University Lady Knights, winning the second game of the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) doubleheader 4-2.

Game One:

The opponents took the first lead of the game, building their lead to 3-0 after the fifth inning. TWU cut into the lead in the sixth inning.

A walk eventually turned into a run as Macy Chastain scored strapped rockets to her boots to score from first on a Mackenzie Baldwin RBI single. A single by Avery Hope moved Baldwin to the other corner and Baldwin went on to score on a Tatum Massengale RBI single, cutting the lead down to one run. The team was not able to equalize the score though, falling in the first game 3-2.

Game Two:

A scoreless first inning led the way to runs being scored over the next five innings. Kentucky Christian scored the first two runs of the game in the second and third innings. 

Hope scored the first run of the game for the Lady Bulldogs in the fourth inning. After getting on base with a double, Hope moved to third on a Gracie Calton sacrifice bunt and scored on Hallie DeArman's sacrifice fly. Tennessee Wesleyan took the lead in the fifth inning.

Chastain opened the inning with a walk and stole second to move into scoring position. Baldwin followed with a walk and got to third on a double by Phillips while Chastain scored on the hit, tying the game 2-2. Massengale gave the team the lead when Baldwin scored on her sacrifice fly. 

The final run of four unanswered runs for the Lady Bulldogs came in the sixth inning. Ali Richards, who hit a single to get on base, eventually scored on a passed ball, giving the team an insurance run in the team's 4-2 win.

Isabella Jackson had six strikeouts in the pitching win.

Up next for the Lady Bulldogs (11-8, 9-7 AAC) is a road trip to Truett McConnell University on Wednesday. The first game is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
