Softball Falls to No. 3 Cumberlands

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky.- The softball team was back on the road on Wednesday to take on the No. 3 University of the Cumberlands Lady Patriots. The team fell 9-1 in five innings.

TWU was put in a hole early in the game as Cumberland scored four runs in the top of the first inning. The team faced a 5-0 deficit before scoring their first run.

In the fourth inning, Bailee Phillips earned a walk to get on base. A wild pitch helped pinch-runner Avery Hope get to second while moving to third on a Brooke Freeman ground out. A single by Tatum Massengale helped the team get on the board as Hope scored. The team was unable to score any more runs in the game as the opponents invoked the run rule in the fifth inning.

TWU (1-1) will play their first conference doubleheader on Friday when they travel to Columbia International University. The doubleheader will begin at 4:00 p.m.
