No. 2 Seed Men's Tennis Set to Play for NAIA National Title for Second Time in Program History
MOBILE, Ala.- For the second time in program history, the men's tennis team will play for a national championship. The second-seeded Bulldogs came from behind to beat No. 3 seed Keiser University 4-3 to advance to the NAIA Men's Tennis National Championship match.
The team fell behind early as Keiser won the doubles point to go ahead 1-0.
Asier Pasucal put the match in a 1-1 tie, winning the No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-1. Keiser broke the tie though by winning the No. 1 singles before Santiago Russo put the match back in a 2-2 tie by winning the No. 4 singles 6-3, 6-3. A win by the opponents in the No. 6 singles put them in the drivers seat, giving them a 3-2 lead and putting them a point away from clinching. The opponents would not find the clinching point though as Serafin Zund won the No. 2 singles 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 and Chanon Phunsawat won the No. 3 singles 4-6, 7-6 [2], 6-2 to give the Bulldogs the 4-3 win.
TWU (22-2) will meet the No. 1 Georgia Gwinnett College in the championship match on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. ET.
