Men's Tennis Wins Fifth Straight AAC Tournament Title
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.- For the fifth consecutive season, the men's tennis team are the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament Champions! The top seeded Bulldogs won the title on Saturday, beating the No. 3 seed SCAD Atlanta Bees 4-0.
Wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles match gave TWU the doubles point. Agustin Gaia and Maceo Simpson scored the No. 1 doubles match with a 6-4 and Octavio Volpi and Juan Carlos Garcia took the No. 2 doubles match 6-2.
Garcia, Leon, and Rios all finished 2-2 on the day to get the team to four points. Garcia won the No. 2 singles match 6-3, 6-2 while Leon won the No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-2. Rios clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-0 win the No. 6 singles.
This is fifth straight season the Bulldogs have swept the AAC Regular Season and Tournament Titles.
The win gives Tennessee Wesleyan (14-2) an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship Tournament. The qualifiers for the national championship tournament tournament will be released on April 29. The tournament is set to be played May 13-17 in Mobile, Ala.
