No. 1 Seed Men's Tennis Wins AAC Tournament Opener
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.- The men's tennis team opened play in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Men's Tennis Championship Tournament on Thursday. As the 2025 AAC Regular Season Champions, the Bulldogs were the No. 1 seed, slotting their opponent as the No. 8 seeded Columbia College Koalas. Tournament play is a first-to-clinch format, meaning the team to score four points wins the match. In this instance, TWU was the first team to four points in a 4-0 win. The tournament is being played at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn.
The Bulldogs won the doubles points with 6-0 scores in the No. 1 and No. 3 matches. Agustin Gaia and Maceo Simpson won the former while Zoilo Rios and David Leon won the latter.
The No. 2, No. 4, and No. 5 singles matches were the first three singles matches to finish. Patricio Gallegos won the No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-2 while Asier Pascual took the No. 4 singles match 6-1, 6-1. Rios used scores of 6-0, 6-0 to win the No. 5 singles, giving the Bulldogs the four points to advance in the tournament.
Tennessee Wesleyan (12-3) will face the No. 4 seed, Milligan University, in the semifinals on Friday. The match is set to start at 10:00 a.m.
