No. 2 Men's Tennis Wins AAC Regular Season Title
ATHENS, Tenn.- The men's tennis team, ranked No. 2 in the NAIA, played their last home conference game of the season on Wednesday. The team hosted the No. 9 team in the NAIA, the Reinhardt University Eagles. Both teams entered the game undefeated in conference play, meaning the winner of the game would be the 2024 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Regular Season Champion.
The first lead of the game went to the Bulldogs. Octavio Volpi and German Delcanto won the No. 1 doubles match 6-3 while Zoilo Rios and David Leon beat their opponents in the No. 2 doubles match 6-2 to give the team the doubles point.
TWU continued to build onto their lead before weather played a factor in the outcome. Volpi added another win for the team, winning the No. 1 singles match 6-3, 6-2. The team picked up their third point of the match when Sabi Roi won the No. 2 singles match 6-2, 6-3. After clinching the No. 6 singles match, a Leon 6-2, 6-0 win, the match was stopped due to weather. With their 4-1 lead in hand, the Bulldogs were declared the winners.
The win made Tennessee Wesleyan (15-1, 8-0 AAC) the AAC Regular Season Champions, their fourth consecutive regular season title.
The AAC Tournament is set to begin on Thursday, April 12. The team will be the No. 1 seed in the tournament and face No. 8 seed Columbia College in their opening match at 2:00 p.m.
