No. 2 Men's Tennis Finishes Showcase With Win

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.- The men's tennis team, ranked No. 2 in the NAIA,  returned to the courts on Wednesday for their final match at the Scenic City College Tennis Spring Break Showcase. TWU faced another ranked NCAA Division II opponent, No. 13 Drury University. 

The match between the two teams was played in a clinch format, meaning the first team to score four points won the match regardless of the status of the remaining matches. 

The doubles matches went all to the Bulldogs, giving them the doubles point. Octavio Volpi and German Delcanto won the No. 1 doubles match 6-4, David Leon and Zoilo Rios won the No. doubles 7-6 [7-3], and Gregorio Magnarelli and Agustin Gaia won the No. 3 doubles match 6-2. 

Wins in the No. 4-6 singles gave the match to TWU. Rios won the No. 4 singles 6-4, 4-6, 10-6. Leon got his second point of the day by winning the No. 5 match 6-3, 6-4 while Gaia was the fourth point in the match, taking the No. 6 singles match 6-2, 6-3. The singles win helped the Bulldogs win the match 4-2. 

Tennessee Wesleyan (10-1) moves back into conference play with their next match. The team goes on the road to face the University of Pikeville, the newcomers to the conference, on Thursday at 3:00 p.m.
