No. 2 Men's Tennis WIns Race to Four Points Against NCAA Division II Columbus State

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.- The men's tennis team returned to the courts at the Scenic City College Tennis Spring Break Showcase on Sunday. The second-ranked Bulldogs faced another ranked NCAA Division II opponent, the No. 7 Columbus State University Cougars.

The match between the two teams was played in a clinch format, meaning the first team to score four points won the match regardless of the status of the remaining matches.

Scores of 6-2 and 6-1 gave the Bulldogs the first point of the match in the form of the doubles point. Octavio Volpi and German Delcanto won the No. 1 doubles point with the first score while Gregorio Magnarelli and Agustin Gaia won the No. 3 doubles with the second score.

TWU got the three points needed to clinch the match in the singles. Patricio Gallegos gave the team one of the points, winning the No. 2 singles 7-5, 6-4. Leon got his second point of the day by winning the No. 4 match 6-4, 6-4 and Jesus Fernandez gave the team a 4-2 win when he won the No. 5 singles match 6-4, 7-6 [7-5].

The team plays one more match at the Scenic City College Tennis Spring Break Showcase. On Wednesday, the Bulldogs (9-1) play Drury University, a NCAA Division II school, at 1:30 p.m.
