Four From Men's Tennis Garner All-American Honors
Kansas City, Mo.- The NAIA announced the 2023 edition of the All-American Teams for men's tennis. Three student-athletes from the Bulldogs were mentioned as a part of one of the two teams while a fourth earned an honorable mention spot. Honorees were selected by the NAIA All-America Selection Committee. Sixteen student-athletes comprise both the first and second teams. This set a new program record for All-Americans in a season.
TWU, the 2023 NAIA National Championship Runner-up, saw Gabriel Ortiz, Nicolas Cortes Campos, and German Delcanto selected to the All-American First Team. The three selections to the First Team placed the Bulldogs in a tie for first for the most selections to the top team. This is the most student-athletes the program has had make the First Team in program history.
This is the third All-American honor for Ortiz, all First-Team spots. The 2023 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Player of the Year (the third time Ortiz took home the award) and the All-AAC First Team member (also three consecutive selections) was ranked No. 1 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for the majority of the regular season. Ortiz finished the 2023 season ranked No. 4 in the ITA's Singles Final Rankings.
Campos was named to the NAIA All-American First Team for the first time. Campos was named to the All-AAC First Team and AAC All-Freshman Team. Campos was ranked No. 6 in the ITA's Final Singles Rankings of the 2023 season.
After honorable mention selections in the past two cycles, Delcanto was named to the NAIA All-American First Team in the 2023 edition for the first time in his career. Delcanto was named a member of the All-AAC First Team this season.
Zolio Rios earned Honorable Mention honors for his play during the season.
