Men's Lacrosse Open AAC Play with Win Against Montreat
ATHENS, Tenn.- The men's lacrosse team opened conference play with a win on Thursday. The team scored seven of the first eight second-half goals in a 17-11 win against the Montreat College Cavaliers on Thursday.
TWU led 3-2 after the first quarter of the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC). Montreat scored the first goal of the game. The Bulldogs followed with tht next three. The first two were scored by Colton Winsick. Reece Ringer put the team ahead 3-1 with his goal.
Three straight goals helped Tennessee Wesleyan break a 4-4 tie. Kennedy Moore gave the Bulldogs a brief 4-3 lead before a goal by the opponents tied the game. Two goals by Micah Decloedt with a goal by Madden Leslie sandwiched in between helped the team lead 7-6 at halftime.
Out of the halftime break, TWU scored the first three goals. Ringer started the scoring while Jameson Koch and Winsick scored back-to-back goals within 35 seconds of each other, moving the team's lead to 10-6. Montreat snuck in a goal but the Bulldogs scored the final two goals of the third quarter to lead 12-6. Winsick and Decloedt scored the two goals for the team.
The lead moved to 14-6 when Jesse Zeigler and Ringer scored in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter. Montreat went on a small run, scoring three straight goals to cut the lead down to five goals. Winsick stopped the run and two more goals by Koch and Leslie helped the team walk off the field with the 17-11 win.
Winsick finished the game with five goals. Jack Shaw had 16 saves in the net.
The win moved the team's record to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the AAC.
