Men's Lacrosse Rally Against Montreat
BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C.- The men's lacrosse team rallied from five goals down to come back and win 16-12 on the road on Saturday. The team picked up an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) win against the Montreat College Cavaliers.
Through three goals scored, the Bulldogs led 2-1. Hayden Harmon scored the first goal while Nathan White put the team up 2-1. Montreat went on to score the remaining four goals of the first quarter, giving them a 5-2 lead to begin the second quarter.
Kennedy Moore broke the scoring drought for TWU, bringing the Bulldogs within two goals of the lead. Montreat scored the next three goals though, moving their lead to 8-3. Harmon ended the second quarter with a goal, making the score 8-4 at the halftime break.
A switch flipped in the third quarter. Five straight goals within a 1:36 timespan helped Tennessee Wesleyan take the lead. Harmon started the scoring at the 10:46 mark, netting a goal on a Torin Piper assist. Moore scored the next goal 12 seconds later to bring the team within two goals and Carson Bowling cut the deficit to one goal. 16 seconds later, Jack Driscoll's goal tied the game while Harmon gave the team the lead with 9:10 remaining in the third quarter. Montreat scored a goal to tie the game again but Harmon and Driscoll both scored to give the team an 11-9 lead at the end of the quarter.
Driscoll scored two more goals consecutively to begin the fourth quarter, moving the lead to 13-9. Over the remaining 12:53, each team scored three goals. Jameson Koch and Moore scored back-to-back, to make the scoreboard read 15-10, and a goal by Driscoll with 1:51 remaining until the final horn got the team to the four-goal margin.
Jack Shaw finished with seven saves in the net. Harmon and Driscoll both had five goals while Moore tallied four assists.
The schedule has the Bulldogs (4-8, 1-5 AAC) play their final home game of the season on Wednesday. The team will host No. 3 Reinhardt University at 3:00 p.m.
