No. 5 Baseball Sweeps Senior Day Doubleheader Against Cumberland

ATHENS, Tenn.- It was Senior Day for the fifth-ranked baseball team on Saturday. The team hosted the Cumberland University Phoenix in a doubleheader. The two teams met earlier in the season and combined for 29 runs in a single game. Saturday's doubleheader saw the teams combine for just 13 runs, with the Bulldogs outscoring the opponents in each game.

Game One:

Only five runs were scored in the first game, with the winning run occurring in the ninth inning. The fourth and seventh innings saw the teams exchange runs.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Daniel Stewart hit a home run to center field to tie the game 1-1.

After getting on base with a fielder's choice, Nick Collins tied the game on Kruise Newman's RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning.

TWU used a walk-off hit to win the game in the bottom of the ninth. Stewart hit a ball that seemed like it was going to fly out of the park but hit the very top of the wall, resulting in a double. Kolton Reynolds hit a single to left field that brought in courtesy-runner Jonathan Bosque to give the Bulldogs the 3-2 win in a walk-off fashion.

Justin Jackson was credited with the win. Daniel Batcher had three strikeouts on the mound.

Game Two:

The fourth inning provided the Bulldogs the runs they needed to win the game. Corbin Shaw started the scoring in a six-run inning with a three-run home run, bringing in Stewart and Reynolds as well. Geremy Garcia moved the lead to 5-0 when his double brought Newman and Brayan Espinoza. Bosque became the sixth run of the inning, scoring after a throw on his steal attempt of third went long, giving Tennessee Wesleyan a 6-0 lead.

Blake Peyton dealt nine strikeouts in the game as the Bulldogs went on to win 6-2 to sweep the doubleheader.

The win moved the team's record to 31-10 overall.
