Peyton and Newman Win AAC Weekly Awards
WALESKA, Ga.- The third edition of the weekly awards for baseball was announced by the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) on Monday. Tennessee Wesleyan was a part of a sweep as Blake Peyton was named the Pitcher of the Week and Kruise Newman was named the Co-Player of the Week.
Peyton took home the award based on his performance against No. 6 Reinhardt University. In the 3-0 win, the senior pitched six scoreless innings in picking up the win. The San Diego, Calif., native struck out 12 batters while only giving up two hits and one walk.
In a 4-0 win for the Bulldogs, Newman finished with two home runs and eight RBIs. In the opening win against No. 6 Reinhardt, the Richmond, Ky., native hit a walk-off home run on the first pitch he saw.
This is the first weekly award for both Peyton and Newman. The next edition of the award will be announced on Monday, March 10.
