ATHENS, Tenn.- The top-ranked baseball team won the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) series opener against the Columbia International University Rams on Friday. The team beat the opponents 10-6.
The first three runs of the game went towards the Bulldogs' score. Josh Shelly, who opened the game with a walk, scored on a Daniel Stewart double to score the first run of the game. Devin Dixon became the second run of the game on a sacrifice fly hit by Jack Stevens. Chris Catalano scored the next run of the game for TWU.
In the second inning, Catalano got on base with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch, stole third, and scored on Cody McGill's ground out. Three more runs were scored by the Bulldogs in the third.
Jonathan Bosque, who was on base for Stewart after a double, stole third and scored the fourth run for the team on an error on the throw attempt to third. Kolton Reynolds added the second run of the inning while Stevens scored on a Catalano single to give the team a 6-1 advantage through three innings.
The fourth inning saw Tennessee Wesleyan get to their 10 runs. Shelly and Dixon, who were standing on second and third, scored on Stewart's single to move the team's score to eight runs. Reynolds hit a two-run home run to give the Bulldogs their ninth and tenth runs of the game as the game went on to win by a four-run margin after a small run by the Rams in the seventh inning.
Stewart led with three RBIs while Reynolds had two RBIs. Justin Jackson had 10 strikeouts in six inning in the pitching win.
The three-game series for TWU (10-3, 3-1 AAC) closes out with a doubleheader on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
