As collegiate summer leagues come to an end nine returning Bulldogs participated in 7 different summer leagues throughout the country. Here is a look at how these returners summers finished up in their respective leagues.
COASTAL PLAINS LEAGUE
Alex Balter will be a rising senior this season for the Bulldogs. The Davie, Florida native spent his summer in the Coastal Plains League with the Asheboro Copperheads. The everyday catcher for the Bulldogs in 2017 appeared in 26 games for the Copperheads and hit .188 with 1 double and 7 runs batted in.
Collin Ridout will be a rising senior this season for the Bulldogs. Ridout is from McHenry, Illinois and was the everyday third baseman this past spring. He spent his summer in the Northwood's League with the Fond Du Lac Dock Spiders. Ridout appeared in 49 games and hit .238 with 6 doubles, 1 triple, 1 homerun and 18 runs batted in.
Daniel Tolano, a native of Tucson, Arizona, will be a rising senior this season for the Bulldogs. Tolano was a spot starter and reliever for TWU in 2017. Daniel spent his summer in the Valley League with the Waynesboro Generals. He appeared in 16 games and ended the season with a 2-0 record. The right hander threw 19.0 innings with 10 walks, 27 strikeouts and finished with a 3.78 earned run average. He was selected to represent the South squad in the Valley League All Star Game and was selected to represent the Valley League in the Southern Collegiate All Star series.
Malik Stephens will be a rising junior this season for the Bulldogs. The Johnson City, Tennessee native was the everyday centerfielder for the Bulldogs in 2017. He spent his summer alongside Tolano with the Waynesboro Generals. Malik appeared in 39 games with 3 doubles, 3 triples, 12 runs batted in, and finished with a .333 average to go along with 10 stolen bases.
OHIO VALLEY LEAGUE
Alfred Cruz enters his third season with the Bulldogs and will be a rising senior this season. Cruz came to TWU from the Dominican Republic. Alfred spent the summer in the Ohio Valley League with the Muhlenberg County Stallions. He appeared in 17 games with 7 homeruns, 19 runs batted in, 10 stolen bases and finished the season with a .383 average. He was selected to the East squad for the OVL All Star Game and was also a participant in the OVL Homerun Derby contest.
Brantley Flanagan, a Woodstock, Georgia native, will be a rising senior this season for the Bulldogs. He was used as a spot starter and reliever last season for the Bulldogs. He spent the summer in the Ohio Valley League with the Henderson Flash. The right hander started 3 games and ended the season with a 3-3 record. In 38.0 innings he walked 17, struck out 34, and ended with 4.93 earned run average.
GREAT WEST LEAGUE
Chris Painter, a rising senior from The Central Point, Oregon spent the 2017 season as a primary reliever for the Bulldogs. He spent the summer in the Great West League with the Medford Rogue. In 11 games the lefty tallied a 5-1 record with 13 strikeouts in 27.1 innings and finished with a 4.61 earned run average. Chris helped Medford to its first ever Great West League title at the conclusion of the season.
SHOW ME COLLEGIATE LEAGUE
Clay Wilson will be a rising sophomore for the Bulldogs this season. Clay is from Crossville, Tennessee and was used primarily out of the bullpen in 2017. He spent the summer in the Show Me Collegiate League for The Stars. The left hander appeared in 17 games with 14 strikeouts in 21.1 innings of work. Clay ended the season with a 4.64 earned run average.
SUNBELT COLLEGIATE LEAGUE
Aloysious Cruz will be a red shirt junior this season for the Bulldogs. An injury sidelined Cruz for the 2017 season with the Bulldogs. He spent the summer in the Sunbelt Collegiate League with the Tucson Kings.
